Senior Care Unit

Bradley County Medical Center is committed to supporting the community by offering a broad range of health care services, which includes the Senior Care Department. Senior Care is an inpatient short-term psychiatric program for persons who are 60 years of age and older, who are experiencing behavioral or emotional problems. These include:
Suicidal patients. (thoughts, plans, or attempts)
Presently experiencing psychoses. (Hallucinations, Delusions, or Paranoia)
Manic behavior.
Assaultive or destructive behavior.
Severe anxiety that hasn’t responded to outpatient treatment or meds.
Dementia patients who have behavioral problems causing them to be a danger to themselves or others.
Depression with 3 or more of following symptoms that haven’t responded to outpatient treatment or meds:
          1. Poor appetite
          2. Insomnia or hypersomnia
          3. Weight loss or weight gain
          4 Loss of interest
          5. Decreased ability to think or concentrate
          6. Feelings of helplessness, hopelessness, or worthlessness
          7. Frequent crying

Therapy and treatment plans are individually developed for each patient.

The unit contains eight beds, which keeps patient care at an individual level. Group therapies are provided and encouraged, as well as individual therapy. Socialization with fellow patients and visitors is also an important part of the Senior Care Program.
